According to the author of 1 Chronicles, God had a special job for Shelemiah and his son Zechariah. They used a fair way called "casting lots" to decide where each would watch over the temple, with Shelemiah going east and Zechariah going north.
1 Chronicles 26:14: And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward. [Shelemiah: also called Meshelemiah]
