According to Daniel, God gave him a special message about the future, and he was told to keep it safe because it was about things that would happen a long time later. This means the message is important and true, but it wasn't meant to be understood right away.
Daniel 8:26: And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told [is] true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it [shall be] for many days.
This verse emphasizes that the vision will not tarry and will come at an appointed time, seemingly contradicting the notion in Daniel 8:26 of the vision being far off.
Habakkuk 2:3: For the vision [is] yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
