Contradiction with Numbers 14:30
Unlike Deuteronomy 1:36 where Caleb is specifically mentioned as the exception to not entering the promised land, Numbers 14:30 mentions both Caleb and Joshua as exceptions.
Numbers 14:30: Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, [concerning] which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. [sware: Heb. lifted up my hand]
Contradiction with Deuteronomy 1:38
While Deuteronomy 1:36 highlights Caleb as the one following wholly, Deuteronomy 1:38 emphasizes Joshua as the one inheriting leadership to bring the people into the land.
Deuteronomy 1:38: [But] Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
Paradox #1
Deuteronomy 1:36 highlights a reward given to one person for their faithfulness, which some may see as inconsistent with the broader biblical theme of impartiality or fairness. Critics might argue that this rewards-based system contradicts the idea that everyone should be treated equally before God. However, others may interpret it as a lesson on the virtues of faith and obedience.
