Contradiction with Luke 14:26
This verse says that one must "hate" their father and mother to be Jesus' disciple, which contradicts the command to honor father and mother in Deuteronomy 5:16.
Luke 14:26: If any [man] come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
Contradiction with Matthew 10:34-35
Jesus states he came to set a man against his father, which may appear to conflict with honoring parents as instructed in Deuteronomy 5:16.
Matthew 10:34-35: Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Paradox #1
There could be a contradiction with the Bible's teachings on the treatment and roles of parents and children. In some parts of the Bible, there are stories or laws that suggest harsh treatment of family members, which might seem inconsistent with the message of respect and honor. This difference can cause confusion about the overall guidelines on family relationships.
Paradox #2
The verse encourages honoring one's parents, which is generally seen as a good principle, but a potential contradiction arises if one's parents are abusive or unethical. In such situations, honoring them might seem to conflict with personal well-being or ethical behavior.
