Contradiction with Genesis 33:4
Esau welcomes Jacob warmly, contradicting the expectation of hostility which led Jacob to separate his camp in Genesis 32.
Genesis 33:4: And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.
Contradiction with Genesis 28:15
God promises to watch over Jacob wherever he goes, but Jacob seems to act out of fear and protection in crossing alone.
Genesis 28:15: And, behold, I [am] with thee, and will keep thee in all [places] whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done [that] which I have spoken to thee of.
Contradiction with Genesis 31:3
God encourages Jacob to return and promises to be with him, yet Jacob appears to act out of fear rather than confidence.
Genesis 31:3: And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.
Contradiction with Exodus 14:14
The Lord shall fight for you, contradicting Jacob’s apparent need to defend himself alone at Jabbok.
Exodus 14:14: The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
Contradiction with Isaiah 41:10
God tells Jacob to fear not, but in Genesis 32:22, Jacob acts with fear by dividing his possessions and crossing alone.
Isaiah 41:10: Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
