According to Jeremiah, the leaders were very angry with him, so they hit him and locked him up in a place that they turned into a prison. This shows that sometimes people didn't like what Jeremiah said and tried to stop him.
Jeremiah 37:15: Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.
