Contradiction with Ruth 2:3
This verse shows Ruth gleaning in the field, which is the practice described in Leviticus 19:9 but distinctly shows favor being given, contradicting the uniformly applicable directive of leaving the gleanings for the poor and the stranger.
Ruth 2:3: And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field [belonging] unto Boaz, who [was] of the kindred of Elimelech. [hap...: Heb. hap happened]
Paradox #1
The potential contradiction in Leviticus 19:9 could arise if the concept of sharing resources with the poor and needy is viewed as conflicting with a belief in personal ownership and property rights. Some people might see a tension between the call to leave part of one's harvest for others and the idea that individuals should have full control over the use of their property. This could lead to a debate over the balance between charity and personal rights.
