According to Luke, Jesus was praying, and when he finished, one of his friends asked him to teach them how to pray. They wanted to learn because John the Baptist taught his followers how to pray too.
Luke 11:1: And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
This verse contradicts Luke 11:1 by providing a similar account of Jesus teaching how to pray, but in different context and words.
Matthew 6:9: After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
