Contradiction with Matthew 26:70
It indicates the same instance but states Peter denied before all of them, providing a variation in audience and circumstances.
Matthew 26:70: And when he was gone out into the porch, another [maid] saw him, and said unto them that were there, This [fellow] was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
Contradiction with Luke 22:57
States Peter denied knowing Jesus in a similar context, but with slight differences in wording which offer a variation from Mark.
Luke 22:57: And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
Contradiction with John 18:17
Also describes Peter's denial but introduces a maid specifically asking, providing a different situational context compared to Mark.
John 18:17: Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also [one] of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not.
Paradox #1
Mark 14:68 might be seen as inconsistent when compared to the accounts in other Gospels, like Matthew and Luke, regarding Peter's denial of Jesus. In Mark's Gospel, a rooster crows after Peter's first denial, while in the other accounts, the rooster's crowing occurs after a different sequence of denials. This creates a discrepancy in the narrative of when the rooster crows in relation to Peter's denials.
