According to Mark, after the day of rest was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought nice-smelling spices to put on Jesus' body. They wanted to show their love and respect for him.
Mark 16:1: And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the [mother] of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
Contradicts Mark 16:1 by stating that Mary Magdalene went to the sepulchre early, while it was still dark, rather than after sunrise.
John 20:1: The first [day] of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
