Contradiction with 1 Kings 11:1-2
Nehemiah reprimands marrying foreign women, whereas Solomon loved many foreign women who turned his heart away from God.
1 Kings 11:1-2: But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, [and] Hittites; [together...: or, beside]
Contradiction with Ruth 1:4
Nehemiah criticizes marrying foreign women, but Mahlon and Chilion married Moabite women, one of whom was Ruth, the ancestor of David.
Ruth 1:4: And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one [was] Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.
Contradiction with Deuteronomy 7:3
Nehemiah reflects the prohibition, yet Israelites often intermarried, as seen in various biblical narratives.
Deuteronomy 7:3: Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
Contradiction with 1 Corinthians 7:12-13
Nehemiah condemns foreign marriages, whereas Paul advises believers to stay with non-believing spouses if they consent to live together.
1 Corinthians 7:12-13: But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
Paradox #1
Nehemiah 13:27 deals with the issue of intermarriage with foreign peoples. A potential contradiction could arise when compared to instances in the Bible where intermarriage is portrayed more positively, such as the story of Ruth, a Moabite woman who marries an Israelite. This contrast could be seen as an inconsistency in the Bible's attitude toward marriage with outsiders.
Paradox #2
Nehemiah 13:27 might be seen as having a contradiction or conflict because it deals with the issue of marrying foreigners, which can be seen as conflicting with themes of love and acceptance found elsewhere in the Bible, such as the command to love your neighbor or the story of Ruth, who was a foreigner and is heralded for her loyalty and faith.
