Contradiction with Genesis 12:6
This verse mentions that the Canaanites were already in the land at Abram's time, whereas Numbers 13:22 implies the existence of Anakim without alluding to these prior occupants.
Genesis 12:6: And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite [was] then in the land. [plain: Heb. plains]
Contradiction with Numbers 13:28
This verse states that the children of Anak were strong, contrary to the earlier narrative where their existence seemed less menacing.
Numbers 13:28: Nevertheless the people [be] strong that dwell in the land, and the cities [are] walled, [and] very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
Contradiction with Joshua 14:15
Hebron was called Kirjath-arba because Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim, conflicting with Numbers 13:22 that suggests brevity in describing the Anakim's influence.
Joshua 14:15: And the name of Hebron before [was] Kirjatharba; [which Arba was] a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
Paradox #1
The potential contradiction in Numbers 13:22 lies in the mention of the city of Hebron being built seven years before Zoan in Egypt. Archaeological evidence suggests that Hebron was not older than some of the ancient Egyptian cities, including Zoan (Tanis). This creates a conflict between the biblical timeline and the archaeological findings regarding the relative ages of these cities.
