According to Moses, who is believed to have written the book, this verse tells us how many people were in the families from the tribe of Asher. There were 53,400 people in total.
Numbers 26:47: These [are] the families of the sons of Asher according to those that were numbered of them; [who were] fifty and three thousand and four hundred.
Numbers 1:23 provides a different number for the tribe of Asher compared to Numbers 26:47.
Numbers 1:23: Those that were numbered of them, [even] of the tribe of Simeon, [were] fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.
