Contradiction with Matthew 5:42
Proverbs 27:13 advises taking collateral from a stranger which suggests caution in lending, while Matthew 5:42 encourages giving to anyone who asks without expecting anything in return.
Matthew 5:42: Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Paradox #1
Proverbs 27:13 talks about taking a garment or pledge as a guarantee for someone else's debt. The contradiction could be seen in the potential for exploiting someone's misfortune. On one hand, the verse implies being cautious and ensuring security in transactions. On the other hand, it might conflict with the values of compassion and generosity, as it involves taking collateral, possibly leaving someone without essential items. This tension between self-protection and charity could be seen as morally inconsistent.
